A self indulgence you can feel free to skip
So a lot has happened over these past few days. Most of it, frankly, absolute shit. Let's get the big thing out of the way.
On September 10th, Charlie Kirk was assassinated at one of his speaking engagements. As of writing the alleged killer has been caught. This story is unfolding and is, as we all should have expected, very confusing to follow. I'm not a religious man but in deference to Mr. Kirk I’d like to believe that he is at peace with his God right now. I wish nothing but peace and strength for his family and those that knew him well. What happened was tragic, uncalled for, and downright fucking evil.
Ah yes, fucking evil …
The aftermath of this incident is what I want to ramble on about, if you'd be so kind as to indulge me. Discourse on the Internet was exactly what you'd expect it to be. Lots of condolences and tears and heartfelt goodbyes. It was also reprehensible bullshit from people who love to lecture about human decency. There has also been another wave of expression going around. One that I believe deserves the eyes of individuals.
The more normal, disconnected geese amongst the gander have begun speaking up and out. It seems that the shocking events of the past days have really opened some eyes to how far gone this has all gotten. We all wish that these eyes would have worked prior to not only Mr. Kirks murder but all the other heinous things that have been happening for a while now. Better late than never, I guess.
As I listened to a bunch of videos about the incident and its response, a statement struck me. This has opened Pandora's box. Ruminating on this, I came to a few thoughts for my creator type friends.
I know some of you are very very angry. I don't disagree with that anger. However as you deus vult and begin your crusade I want to offer some unsolicited advice.
I don't want to fan your flames, I'd rather temper your steel. You want to call down the heavenly host and use your righteous anger as a cudgel against the other side and I understand. I offer to be the devil on your other shoulder and replace that blunt instrument with a sleek smooth dagger. Charging headlong into the fray will not help you change hearts and minds. People are waking up to the psychosis going on now and the last thing you need to do is show them the other side of it. Don't push it. Talk about your topic of choice, give your opinions and for the love of any god out there just BE NORMAL. Make your stories, music, poetry, whatever but just BE NORMAL.
Secondarily, IGNORE THEM. The side that is praising the murder of a guy who talked to people for a living thrives on attention. Their masks have slipped and the world has been seeing the monster underneath. Good. Move on. Challenge the ideas but leave the idiots who have them be. Starve them of that which gives them life. The attack on Mr. Kirk was a symbol of the end of discussion for these psychopaths, so give them what they want.
The box was opened by lunatics. I believe its high time for the sons and daughters of Pandora to get to work. These monsters have sown a whirlwind, its up to us to reap it and use its force to bring things back together.
