Auditory detective work is amazingly fun
Sometimes you get a game on Steam because the premise is cool. A lot of times those games don't quite live up to the promise of the premise. On the other hand, sometimes you get
Released on March 19, 2019 by NExT Studios, Unheard is an experience.
You take the role of an acoustic detective, using a special device to let you hear past scenarios. You already know that the events went down, its your job to figure out the how and why.
This is the general setup of every case you work on. You start with an ample amount of information, i.e. you know the names of all involved, the actual outcome of events. What you don’t know is who all of these people are in relation to the room(s) you’re observing and what part they play in the incident. You see nondescript human outlines moving around the area, going about the events of the day but you have no idea who each one is. That’s where your listening and deductive skills come in kids. Through eavesdropping on the interactions going on in the room you have to positively identify each name in the top right and answer the questions in the bottom. Don’t worry though, you can ABSOLUTELY screw the whole thing up. However I will assume that you looked at the in game image above and thought “Well damn, that looks like a YouTube video.” You are correct! You can rewind, speed up, slow down or just start the hell over. Unfortunately I feel like this game will never get the widespread love it truly deserves because it’s not really “streamable” due to its very nature. The only talking with chat you would do streaming this is telling them to shut the hell up because you have to pay attention.
This was one of my favorite gaming experiences ever. With nothing but overwhelming positive reviews on Steam, this game is definitely worth a playthrough.
So, how are your listening skills? Do you think you can solve these cases and find the connection between them? If you’re up for the challenge, I’m going to put the Steam link below. Go buy it. It’s only $6.99 anyway and I can guarantee it is worth much much more.
